I am one of the patients of your prestigious Medical Center last Tuesday, January 27, who had undergone Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). I wish to thank all the staff/employees who extended their unselfish and dedicated assistance while I was at the Center. Special mention to Dr. Hidegunda Santos, Medicard coordinator, the HMO staff (the two ladies from the billing section), Mr. Oliver Hufana and his staff (MRI section), and the nursing students who assisted at the MRI section.
THANK YOU ALL. .

“A smiling face is the mirror of our body and can heal sick
patients” – Last March I came here for check-up. I was then referred to Dr.
Espinosa so I went to his clinic. He sent me back here for EEG. The staff
downstairs at the front office did the EEG for me right away so I had the time
to go back to Dr. Espinosa who interpreted the result. It was done so fast that
we had the time to go back to Ilocos that same day. I thank the staff very much.
To Lorma as a whole, thank you so much and may God bless you all. All the staff
and employees of Lorma Hospital are very friendly. I’m very glad to see their
smiling faces every morning.
Keep up your good work!!!
Thank you for my pleasant stay at Lorma. Keep up the excellent

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MRI Lands in La Union
By: Allan A. Alvarez, December 28, 2004, San Fernando City, La Union.
The first and only MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) machine ever to set foot in the province of La Union arrived at Lorma Medical Center today in time for its launch and inauguration scheduled for February 2005. Two twenty foot cargo containers hauled the state of the art imaging machine from Manila to San Fernando City through the night and was met by forklift and lifting crew in the morning to assist in its delivery and placement.
“Setup and testing could take up to a month” said Mr. Robert F. Kaiser, Jr., Executive Vice President and Administrator of Lorma Medical Center. “However, we are confident that after its assembly and installation, the new MRI Center will assist in reinforcing and solidifying Lorma’s reputation as the primary referral center in the north as we enter the new millennium.”
Since its emergence in the 1970s, MRI has become a vital tool for diagnosing brain tumours and other diseases of the central nervous system, and for spotting soft-tissue injuries in muscles and ligaments. Functional MRI, a newer and cleverer technology, provides real-time information on brain activity, which is particularly useful in guiding neurosurgeons. Unlike X-rays, magnetic resonance is completely harmless and provides far more detailed images of soft tissues.
Established in 1934, Lorma Medical Center is the primary, private tertiary referral hospital in Region I. Delivering quality medical service for over 70 years, hosting over a hundred medical specialists as visiting consultants and a driving commitment to continuous progress has made Lorma the hospital of choice for most people in the region.
GSIS (Government Service Insurance System) seems to also agree with the people of the region regarding Lorma’s status as the healthcare provider of choice. The nationwide insurance system that covers all government employees of the Philippines recently chose Lorma as one of three hospitals in the country to become exclusive discount providers for their members and in turn, GSIS purchased the MRI for Lorma along with other state of the art, world class medical equipment as part of its commitment in raising the level of benefits for their members.
“The partnership between private and government sector is an ideal arrangement if we are to provide for our membership the highest quality of healthcare available,” said Mr. Winston F. Garcia, President of GSIS, during his visit to Lorma upon the signing of the memorandum of agreement making the partnership official. “Lorma’s unparalleled foresight, excellent healthcare services and willingness to work with GSIS in this undertaking made them the only contender for this ground-breaking joint venture.”
And ground-breaking it might well be. Under the GSIS program, those members who will use the MRI at Lorma are entitled to a 50% discount in addition to reduced rates for other inpatient & outpatient services and pharmacy purchases. The privilege covers not only members but dependents and retirees as well. In fact, a special reception area has been established at Lorma to handle GSIS inquiries alone which assists in informing and assisting members of their benefits.
Premium discounts are not limited to GSIS members alone. Lorma’s Health Plan, a popular healthcare program aimed at complementing existing health insurance programs (such as PhilHealth or other HMO’s), allows members to avail of not just discounts on procedures like the MRI, but also the option to pay on instalments.
Lorma anticipates a warm and open reception of the medical community for the new MRI Center. It’s not often that world class diagnostic imaging is made available in provinces like La Union however; access to such advanced machinery can only raise the standard of healthcare available to the people of the region.
Plans are also underway for the construction of a 5-storey medical arts building at Lorma that will house a new Emergency Room as well as additional doctors’ offices, private rooms and the only hospital helipad in the region.
Being the leader in healthcare service delivery has been the goal of Lorma since its inception and they certainly have no intention of stopping now. The landing of the new MRI at Lorma is a testimony to their commitment of providing the best health care possible. (###)
