Tuberculosis Unit (TBDOTS)
Lorma’s DOTS Facility is both a Hospital-based DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment Shortcourse) Facility and a Private-Public Mix DOTS Center (PPMD).
These were two of the five DOTS models the Philippine Coalition Against Tuberculosis (PhilCAT) developed in September 2001 with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Centers for Disease Control.
As a hospital-based DOTS Facility, the goal is to increase case detection and to enhance the delivery of DOTS services at Lorma Medical Center.
As a Private Public Mix DOTS Center, the overall goal is to increase TB case detection, improve cure rate and synchronize the management of TB in the public and private health sectors.
This means that although TB patients are initially managed at the Lorma Medical Center as in- and out-patients, the hospital can still refer them to the DOTS health center for continued treatment.
